Profile of Martin R. Gutnik, LL.B.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law in 1983, he articled with the law firm of Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1984 (and the Alberta Bar in 2005). He practiced law with Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson from 1984 until June of 1988 when he left the firm to establish Gutnik & Company which evolved over the next ten years into an association of independent lawyers known as Gutnik, Bennell & Arthur.

In 1998 he joined the legal department of the largest mutual fund company  in Canada as an in-house Counsel.

In February of 2000, he again commenced a private practice presently located at 307-1661 Portage Avenue in the City of Winnipeg near the Polo Park Shopping Centre.

He has personally represented clients on more than 10,000 transactions.  He has acted as counsel on a wide range of transactions from small in nature to large transactions involving hundreds of millions of dollars. He has been involved in transactions in  other Provinces in Canada as well as in the United States, in conjunction with lawyers licensed to practice in those jurisdictions outside of the Provinces of Manitoba and Alberta.

His client list has included banks, credit unions, trust companies, developers, large and small businesses, Non-Profit Foundations and Organizations, Professional Athletes and many individuals purchasing or selling real estate, preparing wills and powers of attorney.

He has in the past served on the Board of Directors of The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba and also acted as it's Honorary Solicitor.  He has served on the Board of Directors of a Condominium Corporation and has been President of Marina Management Inc. since 1992. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Behavioural Health Foundation Inc. (formerly known as The St. Norbert Foundation Inc.) and the Board of Directors of Teen Touch Inc., is a Past Chairman and member of the Awards Committee of The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), and is President of GACCO Great American Clothing Company. In November, 2006 he was appointed a review officer under The Youth Drug Stabilization (Support for Parents) Act (Manitoba).   From 2000 to 2006 he was also a registered real estate salesman with Mycom Group Inc. He is President of Homedeal Financial Group (a registered and bonded Mortgage Dealer) and is a co-Founder of HOMEDEAL.CA

He has been a presenter for the Law Society of Manitoba numerous times for the continuing legal education programs on real estate law (title insurance) and running a law office.

He is, and has been since receiving his call, a member in good standing of the Law Society of Manitoba. He is also a member of the Law Society of Alberta.
